Why Using Promotional Items For Corporate Events Is a Solid Strategy

We live in the age of high-tech, fast-paced, online, digital networking. Still, there’s no substitute for the good old fashioned conference, expo, or convention. There’s a reason why, in a world where we can video chat with another country on a whim, that these institutions remain.

Simply put, they work. Corporate events; whether on a large or small scale still hold power in today’s business environment. Even with the rise of digital processes, the ability to network face to face still has a tremendous amount of value.

    What Is a Corporate Event?

Corporate events come in many shapes and sizes. No doubt, you’ve been to more than a few of them in your career. However, the term “corporate event” can sometimes be applied to a variety of conditions. When it comes down to it though, there are really two types of events to which this term is most often applied.

    Small Corporate Events

The first variety of corporate events are small-scale, internal events, which are hosted by a business for their employees and perhaps vendors or VIP clients. This can include something as extravagant as a weekend retreat or fishing trip; or as low key as a private dinner.

In either case, this is an event for both team and trust building. If clients or VIPs are involved, it’s an opportunity to demonstrate your appreciation for them as well as reinforce your commitment to their success. The holidays provide a great time for these type of events to take place.

Small events are more intimate and personal by their nature, so a personal touch can go a long way. More on that in just a moment.

    Large-Scale Events

The second is a larger event, typically hosted by an industry organization or large sponsor. Think conventions, expos, symposiums, or conferences. The type of shindig where anyone who’s anyone in your industry shows up.

We’ve all been to a few of these. This is a time for networking, fact-finding, and a lot of rubbing elbows with the bigwigs of your industry. These events are less personal, but are just as crucial (if not more so) to your business.

In any case, this is a time for networking, teambuilding, or possibly both! Whether it’s a small retreat for VIPs or a large-scale convention, it’s hard to overstate just how this time-honored convention is still going strong. And yet, it isn’t the only institution of value that remains.

Promotional items such as branded or personalized office accessories make an exceptional addition to any event or outing. And for many reasons.

    Why Promotional Items?

Promotional items such as branded or personalized pens, for example, are an elegant gift or a thoughtful accessory. They’re also a business card, billboard, and advertisement. All rolled into one.

When used properly, promotional items help send a message to your employees, clients, and prospects alike. This branded promo item offered to them is a reminder of who you are. They make great gifts, but more importantly, they can help elevate your next corporate event.

    An Elegant Gift

Personalized or branded promotional items bridge the gap between corny giveaway and useful accessory. A promotional pen, for example, is not only fashionably branded; it’s also useful.

On the other hand, who throws away a pen? At least not until the ink runs dry. And at a corporate event, it can be useful for taking notes, exchanging contact information, and more. Fashion + function.

    Business Card

There’s something to be said for the crisp feel of a freshly printed business card in your hand. No doubt, cards are exchanged frequently at corporate events of all sizes. It is a networking environment after all.

Unfortunately, many of these cards suffer the same, inevitable fate. Crunched up in the bottom of a hotel drawer, lost in a sea of its brethren, or stuffed into a wallet and long forgotten. It’s a sad tale, but it’s true.

To that end, business cards are becoming more of a novelty than a necessity. These days, contact information can be exchanged simply by tapping smartphones or jotting down a quick email address.

A promotional item, complete with branding and contact information, therefore fulfills that function beautifully. At the same time, it retains its functionality, as is the case with a promotional pen for example. It’s a functional business card that won’t wind up in the bottom of a hotel sock drawer.

    A Billboard

Think of your corporate event as an elaborate industry movie in which you play a leading role. Congratulations, you’re the star. But like any blockbuster film, movies don’t get made without product placements. When Will Smith drinks a Pepsi on the big screen; a lot of time, negotiating, and money went into making that happen.

Your corporate event is the movie and your promotional items are your product placements. Handing out your items, including them in a gift bag, or simply having them around to be seen serves the same purpose as a billboard or poster.

One of the keys to successful networking, and marketing in general, is generating awareness and remaining top of mind. Promotional items can serve both purposes. Especially in a large event setting where there will be many people, products, and companies vying for your professional attention.

    An Event Like No Other

Yes, even in today’s fast-paced, online, tech-driven world; the corporate event is still a mainstay of almost every industry. Whether you’re gathering the team together for a trust-building exercise or heading off to a big city for the next regional convention; no industry is without an event worth attending.

To make it even more worthwhile, be sure to include promotional items in your suitcase the next time you make the trip. You never know who’s hand will wind up reaching for that pen with your phone number and website on it.
